International Press Twists TIR Media Release
The Stiftung für das Tier im Recht (TIR; Foundation for the Animal in the Law) is pleased about the global coverage of our analysis of the Swiss practice in the field of criminal animal law of the year 2014, which we presented to the public on November 26, 2015.

However, statements of TIR in the Swiss newspaper "20 Minuten“ were mistranslated and interpreted sensationally by the international press. TIR speaks in its analysis neither of an increase in proceedings for sexual acts with animals (zoophilia) nor that there is a significantly higher incidence of zoophilic activities in Switzerland compared to other countries. The TIR study shows that in 2014 there was a general absolute maximum of criminal animal law prosecutions and proceedings and that almost every tenth procedure about animal cruelty in horses between 2010 and 2014 had a zoophilic background. The foreign press has - intentionally or not - twisted our study into a scandal that does not correspond at all to our statements. The reports in tabloid media in the United States, England, Australia, India, Zimbabwe, etc. about the huge increase of people in Switzerland, which have sexual intercourse with horses, are therefore all wrong.
