...025 Atlantic salmon is one of the most popular fish for consumption. However, its production is highly problematic for other animals and the environment. As Douglas Frantz and Catherine Collins point out in Salmon Wars, around 70% of the salmon consumed worldwide comes from aquaculture. Millions of animals live in cramped conditions in huge marine facilities. Pathogens and parasites such as salmon lice spread quickly here and are often combated with synthetic, sometimes illegal, chemicals that cause even more damage to the marine ecosystem. Escaped farmed fish also threaten wild stocks which a...

In our society, animals are still tortured, mistreated and systematically exploited. With the new motif, we want to draw public attention to the urgency that the ...

...TIR's opinion, this is a positive development because the number of cases is not an indicator for an increase in animal welfare-related offenses, but is rather the result of more consistent law enforcement. The canton of Zurich had the highest number of proceedings in absolute terms (464 cases) and also in relative terms with 3.12 proceedings per 10'000 inhabitants. Other cantons also showed better numbers than in previous years, mostly due to improvements in the administrative structures of their police and prosecution offices and to greater awareness and willingness among the general public ...
