Compassionate humans do not have it easy in this world: Every day we are confronted with disturbing news about cruelty to humans, animals, and the environment, which can lead to frustration and resignation, or it can motivate us, to make a change. Kim W. Stallwood is one of those people who manages to transform their sorrow about the state of our world into action for the voiceless and those without rights.  

Kim Stallwood has been dedicated to the promotion of animal rights for years and has been tirelessly fighting for their respect. His book "Growl – Life Lessons, Hard Truths and Bold Strategies from an Animal Advocate" describes his path from being an omnivore slaughterhouse worker to becoming a vegan activist with a passionate call for a rethinking of animal welfare politics. In his work, Kim Stallwood explains the importance of four key values in the philosophy and practice of animal rights: compassion, truth, non-violence and justice. He shows how we can thereby discover our humanity not only for animals but also for ourselves. The foreword is by Queen guitarist Brian May, an influential animal rights activist himself and a committed vegan since the beginning of 2020 - not least due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Currently Kim Stallwood is working as an author, consultant and independent researcher with animal welfare and animal rights organizations and is also doing research, writing and lecturing on animal rights and animal studies.For many years he has played an important role in the animal rights movement and has held leadership positions with some of the world's most prominent organizations, including Compassion in World Farming, British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

Kim Stallwood has built one of the world's leading collections of literature on animal rights and related issues. The collection includes books, journals, periodicals, info material from animal rights and animal welfare groups as well as audiovisual material. Kim Stallwood's entire collection of publications can be viewed on the LibraryThing website, his personal library catalog. TIR is in regular contact with Kim Stallwood and is fortunate to be able to draw on the wealth of the scientist's and book lover's experience in various matters.

Kim Stallwood, the "grumpy vegan", as he jokingly refers to himself, believes that animal rights and the moral and legal status of animals should be considered a public interest in politics and society. At the moment he is working on his new book project titled "Topsy the Elephant" about an elephant who was caught in the wild and killed in 1903 in an amusement park on Coney Island in New York after attacking and killing several people.
