Complaint to the Commission of the European Communities Concerning Failure to Comply with Community Law
So far as illegal bird catching with nets and lime sticks is concerned, Community law in Cyprus is a dead letter. Despite the implementation of the EU Birds Directive in Cyprus national Law 152(1)/2003, wild birds have continued to be as unprotected as before, because of the inefficient and often legally inadequate actions of police and judicial authorities.
The Foundation for the Animal in the Law and its partner organization MBCC Migratory Birds Conservation in Cyprus therefore lodge a complaint against Cyprus, a member State of the European Community, concerning enforcement deficiencies in Cyprus bird conservation regulation.
MBCC is an international monitoring organization with twenty years of experience of observation of bird catching in Cyprus.
Since 2003 MBCC has organized annual work camps to combat the illegal mass killing of wild birds, in collaboration with local authorities.
