The FEI changes the ‘blood rule’ – TIR criticises this decision Today, the FEI General Assembly voted 82 to 20 in favour of amending the so-called ‘blood rule’ in show jumping. In doing so, the International Equestrian Federation has significantly weakened a regulation that serves animal welfare. Whereas visible blood on a horse was previously sufficient grounds for disqualification, from January 2026 onwards, an on-site assessment will be carried out to determine whether the horse is ‘fit to compete’ despite its injury.
