The book ‘Animal – Speak or Die’ by bestselling author Tibor Rode features a German pig named Rosa who demands her right to freedom and takes legal action against the inhumane conditions in factory farming. The defendant agricultural company is represented by aspiring lawyer Ben Lorentz from a renowned Hamburg law firm, who quickly realises why he, as a rookie, has been assigned the case. Since animals are treated as objects under the law and have no legal capacity, the lawsuit is purely symbolic – his client cannot lose the case.
What the lawyer doesn't know, however, is that an international team of researchers is already working vigorously on the other side to use artificial intelligence to decipher communication with animals – a breakthrough that could change everything. Veteran lawyer Rabenstein and his assistant Enna, a committed animal rights activist, are convinced that if they succeed in making Rosa's voice audible, there is a real chance of winning the case. A race against time begins – while powerful opponents do everything in their power to prevent this from happening. Because a world in which animals can speak threatens more than just a business model. In addition, lawyer Lorentz soon has doubts and realises that he is on the wrong side.
Deciphering animal languages using modern technology could fundamentally change our relationship with animals and the way we treat them. Author Tibor Rode is convinced that, thanks to the rapid pace of research, much of this is already within reach. He has conducted meticulous research for this book and delivers a scientifically sound thriller that encourages readers to reflect and pursue their own research in the field of communication with animals.
Tibor Rode studied law and began his professional career as a journalist and legal advisor for a major daily newspaper. Today, the Hamburg native works as a solicitor and notary in Germany. Tibor Rode writes true science thrillers that combine scientific visions, ethical questions and gripping suspense.
"Animal. Speak or Die" is available in stores or can also be viewed by appointment during opening hours at the TIR Library, where reading- and work spaces are available.
