Delegation from Singapore's veterinary authority visits TIR
In October, the Foundation for Animals in Law (TIR) had the pleasure of welcoming a delegation of official representatives from the Singapore Veterinary Authority. The main topics of discussion were the structure of animal welfare legislation and its enforcement in Switzerland and Singapore. A special guest presentation also showcased the work of the Zurich City Police's Environmental and Animal Welfare Offences Unit.

Chantal Stucki from the Zurich City Police's Environmental and Animal Welfare Offences Unit then gave a presentation on police investigations in the field of environmental and animal welfare. Following stimulating presentations by the Singaporean delegation on their animal welfare activities in law and enforcement, there was an informative exchange on the respective practical hurdles and successes. TIR was particularly pleased to learn that Singapore has recently introduced a registration requirement not only for dogs but also for cats – a measure that has unfortunately not yet been successful in Switzerland despite numerous political initiatives. The half-day conference concluded with a presentation of the TIR library by Moena Zeller, who provided an insight into the diverse resources and main themes the collection.
TIR is delighted with this enriching international exchange. It hopes to be able to further intensify its efforts to cooperate and promote animal welfare legislation in both countries in the future.
