Stiftung für das Tier im Recht at the international congress on responsible dog ownership in Brussels
The conference dealing with the difficulties surrounding stray dog populations in southern and eastern Europe took place from October 4 to 5. The Stiftung für das Tier im Recht joins the European project for the benefit of abandoned dogs.
October 26, 2010
25 countries and many important dignitaries were present at the conference: Princess Alia Al Hussein of Jordan who spoke of humans' responsibility for the animals in their care, many national and international NGOs and veterinarian organizations, EU commissioners and other delegates from European institutions, veterinarian and health organizations, as well as various government officials.
During the conference, the Carodog project, which offers potential for a unified strategy for the stray dog question was presented.
The Stiftung für das Tier im Recht presented an overview of the Swiss dog legislation that might serve, in some aspects, as a basis for the development of European standards. TIR was invited to Brussels to accept an official thank you for its support and was represented by director Gieri Bolliger and legal advisor Vannessa Gerritsen. The conference was also an ideal occasion to establish international relations in order to achieve common purposes, offer each other mutual support, and respond to the legal challenges of various EU issues.
